I put a pizza in the oven and sat here and commented on a couple discussions and all of a sudden I looked and my whole kitchen was full of smoke. Actually, so was the room I'm sitting in, but I didn't even notice! Lol.
So I went in and the pizza wasn't done yet, so I took a spatula and scraped up the peice of cheese that fell onto the bottom of the oven and I thought that was causing the problem.
But I came back in here and it got worse!
I'm actaully eating the pizza now, and it didn't burn, but the house is all smoky and stinky!
Don't you hate it when that happens????!!!!!

me come round for peeze of burned pizza? i bring rhubarb wine. we get drunk and throw pizza at nutjobs out of window! [kenneth_smith]
Sorry, Pizza all gone! rasp [momalisa65]
I am always forgetting that I put something on the stove. I get busy and involved and then that is the end of ot! I do that with the washing machine too. Start it and then find something else to do and go back to put the clothes in the dryer to find none there. LOL. [kareng]
I've done that too! I guess we are still normal?? [kareng]
I shudder whenever my wife or daughter is cooking something and then they just have to check "one thing" on the computer. It'll only take a second, they say. Yeah, right! LOL [fwidman]
Yes, it does! LOL [fwidman]
Hi momalisa65, The house may be a wreck with all the smoke and stuff, but the most important thing above all else is - you SAVED THE PIZZA!!! So all's well that ends well, and it's a happy ending for all. Seriously, even if the house burned down around your ears and you got engulfed by a plague of locusts, it really wouldn't be all that bad so long as you had your juicy pizza to munch on... [dodoguy]
That's true! The pizza was still good! [kareng]
I had something similar happen just a couple of minutes ago. I was cooking beans and I checked them about 10 minutes ago and they were fine. After I wrote out my last response, I went to check on them again and the water was all boiled out and the beans were burning on the bottom or the pan. I was still able to salvage them, though, and will be eating them in the next fifteen minutes or so. [desertdarlene]
Lol, Isn't it funny when something happens to you at the same time it happens to someone else on Mylot? That happened to me a couple times. Something happened to me and I came here to mylot and saw someone just posted a discussion about it!shocked [momalisa65]
Wow you were so ingrossed in whatever you were doing that you didn't notice smoke in the room you where in? It must have been something really interesting. It sucks that your house is all stinky and smoky but at least your getting to eat that delicious and scrumptious pizza that I wish I could be eating right now. [ayumitakashi]
yes i do as I burned my pans bottom when mylotting andcooking spaghetti. I managed to save all but the stuck on parts and 'the spaghetti was not burnt itself. but had an awful time getting'the stick on spaghetti off the pan. and it also stank up the kitchen too. lol. lol [Hatley]
Lol. Good thing you noticed the smoke earlier. You're having too much fun I guess. =) [joliefille]
I know that I would spend too much time on myLot so I allocate my time in the evening, if I tried cooking and myLot it would be a worse disaster than what you created. [gitfiddleplayer]
I definately hear what you're saying, it's easy to get caught up in something and forget all about what's going on elsewhere. I had an incident in the kitchen which was caused more by stupidity than distraction, haha. I decided to reach into the oven with tongs to flip the chicken, well I got splashed with grease and my arm did a little jump which caused the chicken to fall right into the bottom of the oven. A huge flame formed and I decided to throw water on it which made it worse, at that point I shut the oven door and suffocated the flame. Sometimes it's strange the things we do under stressful situations, if I had been in the right state of mind I would've known to have just shut the oven door in the first place...ohwell hehe. On the bright side for yourself, atleast your pizza was edible, more than I can say for my little incident! [Jshean20]
Oh, pizza sounds so delicious. I've never made any pizza myself, not that I do much cooking in the house. You should be more careful though, that might have been dangerous, you don't want anything bad happen in the house because of mylot. Hope you enjoyed the pizza momalisa! And hope the smoke is gone by now. [ucancallmedissy]
Ha Ha !! These things do happen once in a while . So just chill and just try to make sure that you do not repeat the mistake . [ptrikha1]
I have done similar to this a few times, it is easy to get carried away on here I think when this happens to us Mylot should compensate us by taking us out to dinner, what do you reckon...lol [lilaclady]
Haha, yea, Myot should take me to dinner.... That's funny! [momalisa65]
that's so hilarious. Even if that happened well at least I know you definitely had a great time in my lot. [carrotcake14]
I'm usually pretty careful about things in the oven, what funny though is my husband did some meatballs in the microwave once, and he followed the directions, now if he had listened to me to begin with he wouldn't have over cooked them I mean they were rock hard roll across the counter put a dent in the floor type over done. So then you have the house smelling like burnt meatballs, which isn't so bad, but what's worse is when someone overdose a bag of popcorn, that's the worst to get out of the microwave. and the house Burnt popcorn smell. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
Oh yes! I have to agree with that...Burnt popcorn in the microwave is the worst smell! [momalisa65]
HAHA well good luck eating the pizza I only burned something small but not a hole pizza lol. [steamon]
Well yes if it was to happen. I hardly cook pizza when I am on the computer.. It does cook pretty fast, I will admit! Pizza in the oven usually is done by 30 minutes or a little less than that.. I do hate it when any food of mines burns up on the stove or oven.. I know that you planned on eating it.. What a bummer..sadsad Well at least you were able to come back to myLot, to tell us this story..happy [cream97]
I ate the pizza too! Somehow the pizza didn't burn too bad. It must have been some cheese that fell off and was burning on the bottom of the oven. Whatever it was I couldn't find it, but it sure was smoking! [momalisa65]
I actually burn pizza everytime I cook it, everytime. I can check it and check it and it is fine and then by the time I go back a few minutes later, burnt. It has never smoked up the whole house though luckily, it does stink though when it is burnt. [gemini_rose]
I think it is more like I cannot cook pizza! [gemini_rose]
That's how addicting mylot is ...hehehe. [cheenlly]
Yes I've had this done to me on both the stove top and the oven both a few times. It just turned out that there was stuff on the burner parts from previouse cooking times. Once I really cleaned it up good it didn't happen again. I know I had to lock the cat up in the bathroom and open all the windows wide open to let the smoke out. I went around spraying air fresher for the burning smokey smell bugged me. I'm glad that you caught it in time and you still got to eat your pizza. [Remembering1996]
Yes, there is nothing worse then cheese that has burnt on the bottom of the stove. It seems to take forever to get the smell out of the house. [PamE53]
Lol, I actually got the smoke out fairly quick. I put a fan in a window and put it on blowing out. It blew all the smoke out the window. [momalisa65]
Oh that's quite funny! For a while I thought your pizza got burnt because you were so engrossed on myLot. Apparently, it's just the cheese. If I were you, I wouldn't even have bothered scraping off the burnt cheese. I don't mind letting it burn and causing lots of smoke as long as my pizza is delicious. :) [mimico]
Hi there momalisa, great news that nothing serious took place and your were able to save your pizza..LOL, I have tried that but I was trying to iron clothes and at the same time, warm something in the microwave, I didn't noticed that I didn't click the right minutes and I was enjoying ironing, good thing my hubby went out from the bathroom and saw our kitchen full of smoke! [checapricorn]
I love pizza and now am in the mood . Many times somehow my pizza cheese has ran and made the whole house smoke . I have done it with many other foods to and think , oh no , I have burnt it . The only thing I really do burn is cookies and one time a roast . ( first time cooked one never added juices or water , just did it once) What a dummy , but I was younger . Anyway , uggg !! I hate the smell it will leave . Makes me sick ! [metschica25]
That happened to me once. I didn't have MyLot at the time. You'd be surprised how easily tomato sauce or cheese on the bottom of the stove smokes up the place. Now I just put my pizza on the George Foreman machine and prop the lid. Takes about ten minutes to get crispy, day one tasting pizza. Not soggy like microwave. Doesn't use so much energy like oven. [beautyqueen26]
I did that once! Two of my friends were coming around and I made a pizza and garlic bread. When they got to my house I went outside to show them a litter of baby rabbits and totally for got about them being in the oven! Wen we got back into the house about 30 mintues later the garlic bread was toally burnt!! It was rock hard!!! hahaha!! [Emma30587]
Awww...I hate to burn garlic bread! At least pizza I can usually eat even if it's burnt. But it doesn't work that way with garlic bread. cry [momalisa65]
That is so annoying! I love pizza and cherish my weekly one. I'm so fussy about overdone pizza yet often end up answering the phone or running a bath or doing something just before my pizza burns to a crisp. At least your was still edible. Once when I was a student I got a real bargain pizza that looked delicious. While it was cooking I couldn't resist taking it out of the oven for a peek. Didn't i flip it over by accident and watch in dismay as it fell face down on the kitchen floor! I was so upset and went to bed hungry! [Fiammetta]
Hi momalisa, I love to cook and IŽm always discovering new dishes. Since I started mylotting I found out how wonderful burned potatoes tasted. RECIPE: You put potaoes to boil (with the idea of eating them boiled with butter, easy way to eat something while posting. (Take care to put them in a thick pot and to put more than what you would eat) In about 2 seconds youŽll start smelling something in between barbecue and fire. You go to the kitchen while discovering it was NOT 2 seconds but almost 2 hours (That was the reason you were SO hungry) DO NOT touch the pot barehanded. But pick up the burnt potatoes with a knife, cut the carbonized bottom and eat the rest with butter, olive oil, cottage cheese, whatever. If you feel guilty enough, you can make a salad. TIP: Put the pan in ice cold water immediatly. Burn will come out HUG. Had lots of fun doing this post. LOL [atacamaval]
Lol, That's funny. When you mentioned having cottage cheese with potatoes, that reminded me of something my mom used to cook....well, she still does when I request it...(which I think I will do soon!) It's some kind of polish or ukrainian dish, and what she does is grates potatoes, forms them into balls by using flour that makes them stick together (I tried and I can't do it!) Then she cooks them in boiling water, and when they are done (soft) she mixes butter and cottage cheese with them. There's a name for it, but I don't remember. I always called it "Mush" and I loved it! [momalisa65]
Mmmmm pizza! LOL! That happens to me ALL the time! I go to do something for just a second and then stuff burns or spills, etc. I'm glad your pizza didn't get burned though! It is very easy to get wrapped up in stuff here on mylot that's for sure! lol [schulzie]
Ohhh, man I feel your pain. That's no fun, and no pizza. Bummer I tend to ruin things in the microwave and toaster. I saw a comedy act by Eddie Izzard that I am remembering on this subject: "the toast has an attitude problem". He went on to tell how the toast lies about the "done" time. It's either under-done, or over-done. Grrrrrr. surrender [MH4444]
lol!that is soooooooo funny momalisa!I guess you are very concentrate commented on some discussions...lol!Netx time watch your pizza first bfore you commented so you don't eat burn pizza..lol! [baleleng2008]
That actually just happened to me tonight, momalisa65. It was with chicken, though, not pizza. I have no idea why it burnt, I was not gone from the kitchen for more than three minutes, and that's as long as it had been in the pan. I set the smoke alarm off and everything. rolleyes [dfn12968]
I don't have a battery in the smoke alarm in my kitchen. When I did, it would go off all the time. I'm surprised the other smoke alarms all over the house didn't go off. I should check them! The whole house really was filled with smoke. My son came down from uptairs and asked "Mom? Is the house on fire? Why is everything blue? I can't see." [momalisa65]
I really hate that too. It's hard to enjoy food when the place permeates with the burnt odor in the air. I usually have delivery when I want pizza. For a few extra dollars than the supermarket brands I think it's worth it. Just a suggestion. Take care. [SueRod]
This is so funny! It really brings back memories. Just last night, my husband put on some bologna to fry for a sandwich and he walked outside to see something with the grandsons. Well, I walked out, too, forgetting the bologna. I came back in and he was taking out black bologna, burned to a crisp! What caused your smoke if the pizza wasn't burned? I know I have let something boil over in the oven and it would smoke us out of the house. [Barb42]
You are not alone. One night I was making spagetti for dinner & as it was cooking I was of course My Lotting LOL. Well lets just say that we decided to order out for some pizza instead LOL. [photographygirl73]
