Can You Bear To Order Pizza In The Rain

The sky was dumping buckets of cats and dogs but I didn't care. I was snuggled tight beneath my blanket, enjoying the feeling of warmth in an air-conditioned room. Yes, it was raining outside but the extra chill and booming thunder only add to the coziness. While I was lying there and wondering if I should force myself to wake up to the new day, my stomach started to grumble like Grandpa Thunder. I felt like eating pizza. Let's see... shall I order one from Pizza Hut? Or Canadian Pizza? Or...? Yet it struck me then that it would be quite wrong of me to satisfy myself that way. It was raining, I wanted a pizza and somebody had to deliver it. Over here, all deliverymen for takeaways ride bikes. How safe is it to ride a bike in the rain? How comfortable is it for them to get into their cold and stinky raincoats to brave the weather to send me a piping hot pizza? I felt guilty just thinking about that and so, I got up and cooked myself a plain bowl of instant noodles instead. So here's the question I like to pose to you in this discussion. Having read my rationale above, can you (still) bear to order pizza in the rain? Do share your thoughts. rolleyes

responses and comments:

They deliver pizzas on bikes ? hahaha now thats funny . What if they have more than one to dellver...box on back or something ? Yes i order pizza in the rain cos our drivers deliver them in cars. Bikes just would not work here ...w00t Oh wait am thinkin push bike..you mean motorcycle bike ? shocked [LoudnProud]

Pizza delivery is done by car here and I will order in all kinds of weather but I think If it were done by bicycle like where you are I would probably not order if the weather were bad. I do have a questions for you and sorry if it has already been asked but I didn't read down through any responses you might have had. How do they keep the pizza hot and dry delivering on a bicycle? [ycanteye]
Guess here's when an "edit" functionality will sure come in handy. I didn't realize using "bikes" would be misleading... I meant bikes as in motorcycles... But whether bikes (either kind) or cars, don't they keep the pizzas hot the same way? - box it up and try to deliver it fast! w00t [lordwarwizard]

Think of it this way. If it is raining cats and dogs and nobody orders pizza, they will not be making any money. That will hurt them. Now sure, I could go pick it up, but I am the customer paying for the pizza. Why should I have to go pick it up? Secondly, if they deliver the pizza, they get a tip. I tip 20% and sometimes 25%. When I order, I get one or two of the largest pizzas they have. Some have large and some have extra large. Then we get soda. At Pizza Hut, we also get casseroles. Do I feel guilty? Never. [Yestheypayme2dothis]
Yea, the order should go ahead if they need the deliveries to buy bacon. sad [lordwarwizard]

hi lordwarwizard, I dont order in general. So far I have only done that once when we were working on a tiring task here at home, cleaning a wall from some mold, and we thought no, even if we changed clothes one would still smell the chlorine bleach we used and we cant get to our fave restaurant like this who also do take away. So we ordered our meal this once. But when theres such a bad weather as you describe here in your post I would also NOT order anything cause as you said someone unfortunate would have to get the stuff to me. Like you I would see whether there is something nice in fridge and pantry which would also work well. [book1962]
Yup, I just have a scene in mind that someone who is most junior among the deliverymen or whoever's the most innocent" will get "bullied" into venturing out in the weather. [lordwarwizard]

Hi wizard! Here in Italy we actually do get those downpours like you describe - but we also get our pizzas delivered in vans. I am also guilty (?) of having had one or more delivered in a thunderstorm - they provide a service and there is nothing on the menu that states "in adverse weather conditions the service is not available" Even though the delivery boy would have to do the bit from the road to the front door in the pouring rain I presume he would have an umbrella. I also presume he would rather deliver even in the rain than not deliver at all, especially the way things are at the moment and jobs few and far between and consequently fewer people ordering take-away pizzas. I also add that if you were here in Italy and could order a REAL Italian pizza then you would probably not even notice the weather as your taste buds would get the better of you and noodles would not even enter into it at all! lol Good to see you Wizard! wink [mysdianait]
Yes it's all rip, rip, rip these days sad Do you rip your pizza or do you cut it? whistle [mysdianait]

Will people get hungry on raining day..? I just feel sleepy, and hungry but get fed pretty well in my dream..:) I have never order anything on raining day before because i also never tot they will deliver on raining day as well, will they? [serena_wai]
GEEZ Serena, don't you get hungry when you waky wake up? rasp I am not sure about Malaysia but over here, I *think* they deliver regardless of the weather. Then again, I seldom order takeaways. I normally just go and buy myself - which was what led me to thinking since I didn't feel like going out in the weather, why should I visit the same misery on others? [lordwarwizard]

Ya i would bear to order a pizza in the rain. As the delivery man are paid for that work. Even if it is raining, the pizza is well protected in a bag. So don't worry nothing will happen to the pizza. If every person start thinking like you, then i am sure that the delivery person will soon be jobless and there will not be any deliveries. Then you will have to go in the rain to buy your own pizza. [atish19]
Well, it doesn't rain everyday so they will hardly be jobless because of this. rasp And I wasn't thinking of the pizza at all... [lordwarwizard]

lolz.. if i have the facility of pizza delivery in my town.. i will surely order a hot pizza in the rain.. it's thrilling and exciting to have a hot pizza in a cold environment.. and it will be surely great to have a hot pizza with a girl friend on a date.. he he he... :P make sure she loves pizza.. [gurudatta11]
Lol, what a little terror you are haha. rasp [lordwarwizard]

They deliver in cars here and in all sorts of weather so it wouldn't bother me in that respect. However, what bothers me is to pay a fortune for the pizza & then have to tip the driver so I'm cheap and we either buy frozen or go to a "take'n bake" place where I get more bang for my buck. [3SnuggleBunnies]
That's why tipping should be abolished and the salary structure readjusted. Over here, we don't practise tipping or encourage it. [lordwarwizard]

You know i never thought of it from the delivery boy's point of view. We too have delivary guys driving motorbikes. So upto now I would just order a home delivery from some restraunt or pizza hut or papa jones. But I think I will remember this every time my hand goes to the phone to order something when the rain is pouring. [anura30]

Well, I think I would have used the same rationale that you used, especially if it was a cold rain. I would fix something to eat instead of having something delivered. I haven't seen a discussion started by you in a good while. I don't start too many discussions these days, usually spend my time responding to others discussions. [terri0824]
Well... most myLotters will go poof once in a while... rolleyes [lordwarwizard]

Hello Lord...nice to see you again. In your given set of circumstances I probably would not order pizza in the rain. I would not want to ride a bicycle in the rain so I would not do something to make someone else do the same. It really isn't safe riding a bicycle in rain especially if there is motor vehicle traffic involved. Here the delivery people use cars so ordering in the rain is not a problem, but then I don't order pizza out very often and if we do usually we go get it ourselves especiallu since most places have a rather large delivery fee attached. [sumofalltears]
Thumbs up for being sympathetic hehe. lol Yup, if delivery is done using cars, then it is not so much a problem (though driving in the rain is less safe than during normal weather time). [lordwarwizard]

I never really order pizza anyway. I can't really order a whole pizza as I can't eat it all and I can't really tolerate a lot of flour. So, I only order by the slice and I have to go out and get it if I want it that way. [desertdarlene]
Try those small ones for one person? Then again over here, they won't deliver if it is too little... [lordwarwizard]

How noble of you but you just deprived that guy of his earning too. If we all stop doingthat may be ompany willnever require anopther delivery man and then many people will face job cuts too. When its raining and when its too hot to venture out that is the busiest time for these delivery men. Next time may be order your pizza and leave a handsome tip to him that will surely make his day. [mansha]
Yup, I thought of that point too - well, one can always make it up to him on a non-rainy day lol. rasp The handsome tip part would be a good suggestion for those who can well afford. happy [lordwarwizard]

Well my Lord, I can say that I can bear to order pizza in the rain because here in Oregon it rains most of the year so our pizza delivery people drive cars. So they are used to driving in the rain. Hugs to my favorite Lord :) [mssnow]
Cars would be neater but over here, it is a small place and I think it is cheaper for the company to employ bike riders. [lordwarwizard]

Okay, maybe I am wrong here but yes, I would still order the pizza. Even on bicycles, they chose their jobs and knew that they would have to ride their bike in the rain, snow, etc. Of course, if anyone knows me, I would want to pick it up myself, just because I like to get out of the house from time to time. Pizza is one of my favorites, any time of the day, too. If it calls for a midnight run to where ever to get it, there I will be, lol. [Felicialessard1]
Nah, there is no right or wrong. happy You are right.. in a way, they choose their jobs... [lordwarwizard]

ooh..on bike?blink well..i'd still order it..but i'd give the person a bigger tip than normal for coming out in the rain.i know my brother used to say when he delivered pizza he'd rather go out and make a tip than sit around the shop, rain or not. i don't think i've seen deliveries on bike local, most of them have cars. [scarlet_woman]
Yup, that would be real nice of you - to hand him a bigger tip than usual. lol [lordwarwizard]

yes it is okay. If it is raining cats and dogs out, then be sure to give him/her a tip. Its there job to deliver pizza when no one wants to go outside to get it themselves, and if you don't order they don't get as much money, as most delivery people make there money in tips. [riskysim]
Yup, if tipping is the bulk of their pay, I guess giving a more handsome tip would be real nice of you. happy [lordwarwizard]

cryWell I have never come accross this moral dilema that you seem to have had the other noght for a few different reasons. First of all, in my neck of the woods, all of the pizza delivery guys drive, so I don't feel nearly as bad asking them to comeo out in the rain. I probably would feel worse if it they did not drive cars. I also don't really feel bad making them deliver in the rain, because I have known a lot of pizza delivery guys in the past would told me that they LOVE it when it rains, because they make much better money when people stay home on rainy nights.rolleyes I have felt a bit guilty calling out for pizza during a snowstorm, but I sort of feel the saame way about it. Better them than me, right?whistle [ljbinkop]
Yep, if they drive, it wouldn't be that bad. It is still not entirely safe but driving is still safer than riding in the rain. Well can't gainsay you if they do make more money in the rain. Hmm... maybe I should start ordering pizzas in the rain lol. rasp [lordwarwizard]

Okay...first I don't think rain really effects the safety of a bike if you are used to riding a bike. As a kid we rode our bikes in the rain all the time. Second, we use cars here to deliver pizza. So, I might not order pizza in the rain over there, but here I have no problem. They get paid to deliver my pizza. It is as simple as that. I would probably tip better then normal if it was really pouring, but would definitely order. [aidenofthetower]
If I am the one riding, definitely I would be extra careful. But well, sometimes careful or not, the weather just makes it more dangerous. Just my thought. [lordwarwizard]

That was very thoughtful of you. I wouldn't order pizza in any weather, I don't like them. I don't order any ready made food for delivery as it is never hot enough when it arrives and Mr Croc has to eat it all. [nannacroc]
Ha! If only I can cook! cry [lordwarwizard]

yes for over here they have cars to ride in! [Lakota12]

I would feel guility too if the delivery people where I lived had to ride a bike. But, here they all drive in cars. So, I don't worry about it. I think that is is their job to deliver pizzas so they should be ready to work in all weather. But, I would feel very bad about them getting all wet simply to bring me food. Knowing myself, I would probably go pick it up from the restaurant myself. [hmkoct5]
Yea, it is their job... [lordwarwizard]

Well here the come in cars...and get tips.....so if they get tips there and it's part of their income.....then I would still order it as to not cut their wages just because of the rain. They probably are prepared when it rains....but since I hardly ever order it anyway I probably would have opted to make something else anyway. [jillhill]
Lol, I like the way you put it. And yes, I wouldn't feel bad if they come in cars here. happy [lordwarwizard]

Well in my country, the pizza guys ride motorcycles. And the pizza is usually kept in a warming container. So if I wanted pizza, I'd still probably order one anyway and then tip the driver extra just because of all the hassle. When it rains, it's hard to drive around especially in a motorcycle. Plus, the traffic will be worse. [mimico]
Yup, tipping extra would be great. lol [lordwarwizard]

Our pizza delivery people drive cars so I would have ordered the pizza. In your case I probably would have done the same thing you did. If the guy didn't have far to go and I was giving him a good tip, and I was really wanting that pizza, I would have ordered it. Piping hot pizza does sound good. [Polly1]
I guess if one is really hungry, then reason might falter in face of hunger hehe. lol [lordwarwizard]

I could see why you might feel guilty sending out some poor person on their bike in the rain. But just stop to think a minute. If it were not for those people ordering pizzas to go that person may not even have a job at all. Now I do agree that it probably is dangerous for them to deliver on a bike in the rain. We don't have a problem like that over in the US. Everyone drives cars and the worse thing would be they might get a little wet from the curb to the house. But then again there is that job thing and deliveries also pay a little more. So there goes my guilty feelings and hello pizza. [eeyore39]
Yup my friend, I hear your point. I just thought that over here, they get paid by the hour and so it is nothing to do with how much we order - in that case, then my worry would not be unfounded. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to deprive them of their livelihood too! lol [lordwarwizard]

I would have ordered the pizza wizzy. Think about it if no one buys pizza to be delivered when it rains these delivery people will lose out on tips but also may not get paid , or if they do but people don't order when it rains then the bosses might not employ as many people. I think getting wet is better than not having a job so I am off to orfer pizza! xxxx [mummymo]

Well, all the delivery people here deliver by cars. So I woulodn't have to feel bad about them getting soaked. So yes, I would order pizza in the rain. However, I will not order pizza when it is slick, and the roads are icy. I just can't imagine how hard it must be to make deliveries in that kind of weather. Because that is more dangerous than even driving in the rain. [AmbiePam]
Yea if the weather is exceptionally bad, then we might need to do a rethink. Otherwise if cars are used to deliver pizzas, then it isn't as bad (as a bike). [lordwarwizard]

ohhh well for me if i am really craving for one i dont care about the weather...i have to get what i really want to eat....its very fulfilling after though....anyway you can call and have it delivered thats more convenient... [lalola24]
Yes, it is a very handy service to have... [lordwarwizard]

if my situation was the same, I would not order pizza, I might not be hungry no more, but there is someone that is gona be suffering. From my point of view. [wolfaaron]
Yes if your order in the rain brings them income they "desperately" want, then fine... order. rolleyes [lordwarwizard]

Hi, yes I can bear to order pizza in the rain :) The way I think is this : those pizza delivery boy is being paid to deliver my pizza, if no one orders delivry pizza when it is raining - then the pizza place would have no need to hire the delivery guy... therefore they lose jobs. Hence by still ordering pizza no matter whether it rains or not, I am providing them with a job :) Anyways, they do use cars or sometimes motorbike when delivery pizza in Australia... so the rain doesnt really affect much :) Cheers [luckydolphin98]
Yea if cars are used, then it doesn't really matter as much. Also, if tipping is what help them survive, then yes, it is "wise" to order pizzas in the rain (or anything for that matter lol). rasp [lordwarwizard]

well here I will order it in any weather because they delivery men drive cars, so it is not a problem, [winterose]
Yea, with cars, then it is not an issue. [lordwarwizard]

I am not an pizza eater, but if in case i am in your situition i'll just open some can goods or cook an instant noodles to ease my hungerness rather than to order a pizza worrying that might accidents happens to a delivery person... can't enjoy eating if there's thing throubling your mind. [gracypure]

While it makes me feel very bad doing something like this, I usually just think to myself that they signed up for that job. If they weren't ready to do that, then they should never have taken the job as delivery boy. Plus, I usually give them a huge tip, so that takes away my guilt. [mechace1]
Yea, a big tip would go a long way. rolleyes [lordwarwizard]

I like pizza a lot but if it is raining hars, I would probably not feel like eating it. I like pizza that is hot and a wet delivery boy does not make me crave pizza. Cheers!! [underdogtoo]
Lol! But don't they put the pizzas in boxes so that they still stay warm? lol [lordwarwizard]

hehhee... interesting.. I wonder what would have happened if you ordered.. hehehe well, i guess i'd rather not as well./... [jd107nette]
Hopefully nothing anyway! rasp rasp rasp [lordwarwizard]

So I saw this discussion and it reminded me of how much I want pizza right now. And if it were raining I would certainly order one even if the delivery guy had to ride his bike. I ride my bike in the rain to and from work, and it rains quite often here. Sure it is not the nicest thing riding in the rain, the main thing I dislike is the amount of dirty wetness that ends up on my bottom. Anyway. I would just tip the delivery guy generously. [Sagehill15]
Go munch your favorite pizza then lol. lol Tipping generously would be ideal. cool [lordwarwizard]

If they delievered on bikes or on foot I'd be with you on that one. Well, depending on how far the ride was for them too. Hehe. But, since our delivery guys drive cars I have no problem with ordering pizza in the rain. Dang, but I want a pizza now! Look what you did! LoL! [dismalgrin]
Yup, with cars, no worries! ~~ [lordwarwizard]

Yep. I also give the delivery person a bigger tip when the weather is bad. I figure they have to earn a living too. [youdontsay]
Yea, a bigger tip would be helpful. happy [lordwarwizard]

yes i can bear to, it is their job to do those things its a legal thing to do. [cyberken16]
Sure, nothing illegal about it... [lordwarwizard]

If you will not order, for sure some other pizza-craving fellow will, by then, the delivery man will have to do his job anyway. So, what's the fuss? [Palace_Girl]
Sure, no fuss. blink [lordwarwizard]

Normally, I'd say definitely yes without preamble. But reading your rationale, maybe I'd consider it... But still I'm craving for pizza and nothing will satisfy that craving unless I eat. So what the heck, maybe I'd still order and give the delivery guy a big tip to compensate for his hard work. lol [mhii_stranger]
Yup, a big tip will ease the heart. lol [lordwarwizard]

I just can't. I can't bear the thought of enjoying a pizza at somebody's expense and effort (the delivery boy). It would just be so unfair to call out a home delivery when it's raining so hard outside and let him deliver a pizza at my place. But if ever I can, I'm obliged to give him a very good tip, maybe as much as the pizza itself. At least in that way I can compensate for the effort and the hardship he's gone through in delivering the pizza. I've got to be considerate in dealing with it in whatever way. [boy_bato]
Kind soul. lol [lordwarwizard]

Well, where I live if you can get them to deliver that far out it is cool and yes I would order out if it was raining because where I live they use cars..but then there is that big hill to walk up to my home...but if I lived where you did and they only delivered on bikes I would be less inclined to deliver because I surely wouldn't want someone to catch their death because of me and my grumbling belly. [mtdewgurl74]
Yup if cars are used, then it is not so bad. [lordwarwizard]

Well... the pizza man and the delivery man would hope that you are in the minority... otherwise he might as well close his shop when it is raining and go broke. I feel for the poor delivery man who was not able to eat that night as he had no delivery to make... and no money to buy food. [Aussies2007]
Hahaha rasp rasp rasp [lordwarwizard]

I dun think i will be as rational as u, by thinking about those delivery man when i'm too hungry to be thinking about anything much.. lol =D I guess i will still order my pizza because i'm simply too lazy to get out from my place.. hehe ^_^ After all, it might be raining heavily at my side here, but not somewhere which i'm ordering my pizza from.. haha =D WHo knows by time my pizza is on the way, rain would have stopped?? hehe Also, those delivery guys have a choice on they wanna risk sending the pizzas, as it meant money to them.. haha =D [kun2349]
lol =D I'm not knowledgable, but i do have some frenz working in that line ^_^ Yeah, 'lau jiao, xin jiao' system never fails to work in almost everywhere, esepcially in singapore.. haha =D [kun2349]

I am happy to know that you think of others before yourself, even about the pizza delivery boy, I wish there were more people like you in this World. [dbhattji]
I see one in you. happy [lordwarwizard]

I can't bear to do that, most bicycle accidents happen in the rain. Unless of course I ordered it before it rained cats and dogs. But usually when it rains, we don't take deliveries, I'd rather just cook slowly some broth or soup. Regardless how much tip you could pay, there's no returning back the guilt when that deliver person does have some sort of accident because of your laziness. It's good you opted to just get up and cook. [laydee]
Yea if you ordered it before the rain, then well... Anyway I was talking about motorcycle bikes... sorry, I would have been clearer. [lordwarwizard]

i definitely love to order for a pizza in the rain...then it will b so yummy yummy....my mouth is watering happy mylotting [vasavi20]
Lol, you are bad! Ha! rasp [lordwarwizard]

To be honest I never actually thought about the weather when ordering a takeaway, whether it be pizza, Indian, Chinese food, whatever. Generally pizza delivery guys ride bikes and from other restaurants they use cars but I never actually thought about it before now. The Pizza Hut nearest to me is a delivery place only and it's literally 2 minutes away on a bike, so I don't think I've ever given a 2nd thought to how they will manage in the rain. I don't think it will make any difference to me in the future though as to be honest, the delivery drivers are paid to do a job and they more often than not get a tip as well. I don't get tips from people for me doing my every day job now do I? :p [anonymili]
Sure, can't say there is anything wrong in your logic. lol [lordwarwizard]

I will definitely order for the pizza. Not to put the pizza delivery boy in trouble but to give him the opportunity and earn his money. If it cannot be delivered foe any reason the company itself would decline to deliver excusing it of the climate. So why deprive them of their business while they are ready to do it. [balasri]

Why not.I love pizzas and burger. If iget thought of eating them i will order at any time and in any season. You know pizza hut is near by my home.So even it rains i dont bother to oreder.I will heat it again and have it. [mymytri]

I would order it anyway, because if you dont, the boss will fire the guy that delivers pizza, bacause people dont order any. Think about that... [siteumnome]
Yea, it did cross my mind. [lordwarwizard]

yes the delivery guys here are quite efficient...efficient meaning they deliver on time so that they do not have to give away free pizza [pratik87]
That's nice (for the customer) if late delivery means an extra pizza. [lordwarwizard]

Hi lordwarwizard! How are you friend? It is rare that I see your discussions lately? I am glad to see you here now! So back to the discussion! Delivery guys from pizza parlors and other food chain here usually have motorbikes to use for their transportation. So, I don't think that I can bear it to have one delivered for me when it is raining so hard. I know that delivery guys have raincoats to keep them from getting wet but the danger of riding on wet road is great. I don't want to put them to risk. So I will just have to do with anything in my cupboard or kitchen too. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith [faith210]

I've only done that once, and the best of my guilt just towered over my heart!! =( I felt so bad, I gave the pizza dude a nice tip and appologized for making him come all that way in the rain. I think it was a summer and...man was it raining X_X. I would have offered for him to come in for a while, but I was like, 13 at the time, and my parents weren't even home so that'd be...awk-waaarrdd... but still... to this day I feel kinda good that I appologized for making him do that. =) but...i WAS hungry... >_>... lolz. [bloo_equinox]
Aw... ok, at least you gave him a nice tip so I am sure he appreciated it. lol 13? No no, don't let strangers into the house. No matter what age you are lol. happy [lordwarwizard]

I always pick up my own Pizza it has been a while since I had them diliver me a Pizza, I am talking about some years. I usually call it in and get it myself. You are making me think about ordering some Pizza for today, I can get a Pizza for $11.99 and get a medium one for .99 now is that good or what? have a good day! [marciascott]
Yup, I don't usually order deliveries too. The reason why I thought of making an exception was precisely because of the rain. And yet it is ironically the same reason that stopped me from ordering. Pizzas are still expensive here. Well, everything is expensive lol. angry [lordwarwizard]

ya sure.... in the rain times i would like to eat hot n spicy pizza.... [jameey]
Yes, I am sure it would be an enjoyment... [lordwarwizard]

Well when i just read the heading before delivering the respond i thought that i would ask to deliver but then i was still not sure but after readin the whole post now i think that i wont order for a say of 70 percent, but then if i really feel like eating a pizza then i will go to get one on myself because eating a pizza after getting wet i think it adds more fun to the situation and to the wheather outside... [Archie0]
Thank you for reading the whole discussion. I have had people giving too quick a glance to some of my past discussions and blamed me for e.g. asking senseless things when they didn't read properly themselves lol. But I digress. So you think getting wet then having a pizza sounds fun. Lol sure. lol [lordwarwizard]

Where I live I have no problem ordering Pizza in the rain because they drive cars trucks and minivans here. So I have no problem thinking about getting pizza when it rains. Now if I was in your situation and the deliverers where on bikes it would really depend on how unmotivated I was to actually cook.. LOL!!!! [bellaofchaos]
Yup yup, if they deliver in big vehicles, the danger is minimized. cool @trinidadvelasco: Nah, I wouldn't say that is lazy... nothing wrong with wanting to relax. lol [lordwarwizard]

If my delivery drivers rode bikes, I couldnt do it! But as here, they drive their cars, I dont mind doing it! =) [stacyv81]
Yup, if it is cars then no so much of a worry. [lordwarwizard]

For me i think i really cant. I dont like to enjoy myself at the expense of another person. Well first of all i dont like ordering pizza for delivery when its raining because the pizza would surely get wet and it wont make me feel good also knowing that the pizza delivery boy/girl would get wet just to deliver my pizza. Anyways, this is really a nice discussion for us to reflect on my friend. hehe [jewilim]

yes, they do deliver pizzas here eventhough it is raining that hard. i can still remember that we did this sometime last december. my son wanted to have some pizza bites but we could no go out as it was raining mighty strong. by the way, lordwarwizard, pizza deliveries here are also done with motorbikes. when it rains, they wear raincoats. the kind which have the driver fully covered so he does not get wet at all. we got our pizza hut hot and untainted with rain. [trinidadvelasco]
I think they do deliver here when it is raining too. Raincoats aren't 100% waterproof? Plus the idea of slipping into the coats already put me off. Most raincoats have that "unique" smell and you can't seem to ever get rid of it. Anyway, there is the road condition to consider. I think it is dangerous enough to be on a bike on fair weather days. [lordwarwizard]

It's an irony to say that I love to eat pizza when it's raining. There was a time when I really did make an order of pizza while it was heavily. Good thing, the pizza delivery man was riding a car. good for him and for me, I was able to eat pizza. [dorisday1971]
Good for both of you. lol [lordwarwizard]

First of all, I would like to say that I simply love this descriptive style in which you have described the events. You made the whole set of events come alive vividly. Over here, the Pizzas are delivered on motorcycles with hot case boxes on the back seat of the two wheeler. They deliver all year round unless they have to close their shop due to some national holiday. They deliver it irrespective of the weather. During rain storm they wear the proper rain attire and helmet. We are at times hesitant in ordering it during down pours, but the pizza outlets dispel our fears and tell us not to worry and we will get a piping hot fresh pizza within 30 minutes or else it is free. [nick1in]
Thanks nick1in! lol I think they used the same kind of delivery setup over here. They will deliver it even if it is rainy too (I think). Well, I wasn't that worried about the pizza... more the driver... [lordwarwizard]

Be it rain or shine, the stomach will and sure to grumble when it feels like it. A hungry man is an angry man who will have lost his compassion. Hungry, bear and compassion are never in tandem with each other. Deliveryman are prepared to "travel", and if the weather condition is unfit for "travel", the company will stop the delivery. So I will still go ahead and call. To make it more mean, better still if they delivered it cold, I get one replacement :p [whyaskq]
Geez bighead, you are so so so mean. rasprasprasp [lordwarwizard]

Pizza delivery here in our area is done by motorcycles. That is why I don't really order pizza or anything on delivery when it is raining really bad. I feel bad for the delivery dudes. True that they have their raincoats but its not enough to protect them from accidents and all that. Most especially during deliveries, they have to rush the orders because of what the allotted time they need to deliver the foods. their motto: IF IT'S LATE, IT'S FREE. [foxyella]
You brought up another valid point - the weather is bad and they have to rush even more. I suppose they get penalized if the late is late, causing the company to lose money... cry [lordwarwizard]

You would've paid the gentleman, yes? Possibly even paying a little extra for the uncomfortable weather? Then all the worldly injustice (within that moment alone ... i.e. not counting anything but that moment) is forgiven! The service-industry's purpose is to serve---their comfort or discomfort in such a position is not part of the agreement. The agreement is: the servant serves; the served is made to feel that the server should receive 'representation of the worth which the served received through serving' (money). If the delivery-people can't stand to deliver in the rain, either they shouldn't have opened the restaurant that day or they shouldn't have come to work that day. [mythman]
Actually no. That's because while the culture of tipping is wide spread in many places in the world, it is not over here. We don't practise tipping and don't encourage it. Of course, the basic salary is much higher than in places where tipping is the main source of income. [lordwarwizard]

Having pizzas on a rainy day- sounds good. But getting someone to drive a motorcycle to deliver it in all this rain. hmm never really have thought about that! Maybe I too will go in for some instant noodles. But over here they drive a car so will order and probably tip them well if they are not too late!! [malsun]
Yup, wouldn't be that bad if cars are used. happy [lordwarwizard]

That's an unique topic. lol I don't believe I would now order a pizza in the rain. Although, I live in a small town in Minnesota, and we don't have any pizza delivery here. [Quest8205]

They deliver them in cars where I live. However, if they were to deliver them on bikes where I live.. I would still order a pizza. It's his job, and I would probably pay a hefty-ish tip for his troubles. [pyrofortress]
Yup, the hefty tip would be very nice. cool [lordwarwizard]

Well I doubt I would order pizza if the delivery guy is on a bike. I couldn't knowing that someone would have to ride their bike in the rain. It isn't safe. I don't know about everywhere else but here, people cant drive in the rain. It can be scary even if your in a car. On a bike, I imagine it would be too easy for one of these idiots to hit the delivery guy. I wouldve just ate noodles too. [LDabney]
It is dangerous even walking in the rain. Slippery conditions are not all that safe. [lordwarwizard]

How considerate of you to consider the delivery guy. I would never get that far because where I live there is no delivery and I would have had to go out in the rain and pick it up :-S Stay under the covers and don't even think it! :-P [AndreaMB1978]
Saves you the dilemma! lol [lordwarwizard]

Hahaha,it's so funny... Firstly,I do not think Pizza Hut deliver the pizzas by bikes, although I have never done it by now. Scondly,I think you are just a sentimental man.If I were you , i would just do it without thinking so much......... [lynnjiang]
Actually, Pizza Hut delivers the pizzas by bikes over here. I think the mode of transport varies from place to place. [lordwarwizard]

Will people get hungry on raining day..? Here deliver pizzas on bikes Yes i order pizza in the rain cos our drivers deliver them in bike [santhosheie]
Sure they will. rasp [lordwarwizard]

I won't place the order if it's having downpour and thunders. That's dangerous for the delivery guys since they travel on motorbikes. It's just a matter of the mind, there are other ways to satisfy my hunger, like opening some canned food, or make a sandwich, simple and neat. And with the money saved from not ordering the pizza, I could watch a show at the cinema instead. [naka75]
Yup, that was my concern. rolleyes [lordwarwizard]

Hello Wizzy, my Lord! It's good to see you around again... it's been a long time, my friend. I wouldn't hesitate to order pizza when it was raining. After all, that's the job the delivery men chose, and they get paid for working in all weathers, so no, I wouldn't have any qualms at all, I'm afraid. Brightest Blessings, my friend. [Darkwing]
I did receive your PM yes, and you should have received the reply, but if not... I'm looking out the chart I made for that purpose. Haven't had any luck yet, but it's the best way to do it. I hope it reveals what we want it to! lol. [Darkwing]

I usually do, because in my town, they deliver by cars. Cars have heat and they keep them dry. The only time they would be out in the rain is when they run out to the car and when they bring it to my door. If they rode motorcycles, I would still order pizza, I'd just give them a larger tip for their troubles. [ShayDay]
Yup, would be a smaller issue if delivery is done by cars. happy [lordwarwizard]

Wow. Talk about balancing a large box of pizza on a bike and riding. I think you shouldn't feel guity. The company needs sales to stay in business. So as long as the company is getting enough sales a day that is a starting point. Low sales totals would mean there might not be anything much for workers to do. So they might be sent home early and it may be harder for them to pay their bills. So I don't think you should feel bad at all. I think the boxes would be allright. Sometimes people throw garbage by the garbage bin and it already full. It is still intact (the box). [dns100]
Yes, that's a possibility... [lordwarwizard]

I loved your post and it read like a biography all the way. I did order pizza in one such rainy day! And trust me, I can only repent more now after reading this. We get delivery boys in bikes who are quite prompt with their service and when I took the hand over I could see the overalls of the man drenched till below! I asked him to wait a bit. He waited for a minute or so and then vanished in a jiffy. The pizza didn't taste good. It had everything but my mind. [mimpi1911]
Coss it's tough to make a living? sad [lordwarwizard]

I always order pizza by online. They will deliver the pizza you order within 30 minutes. So, there is no problem with me to order pizza in the rain ^^ [seow227]

Well if I was in your shoes I would have done the exact same.... If the pizza delivery guy rode a bike I too would feel guilty about hime riding in the pouring rain just to feed my hunger.... I would go and pick it up myself if I really wanted the pizza that badly... Get pizza the next night instead.. [pinklilly]
So I thought. rolleyes [lordwarwizard]

i never thought of it that way.. i order pizza sometimes when its raining, and sometimes i feel lazy to cook because of the weather... but right now, when i call, i will try to be more considerate... it's hard though, since i usually crave for pizza, when its raining....but i'll try it... [cuttyrish]
Up to you. cool [lordwarwizard]

They deliver pizzas on motorcycle in my country. I haven't really thought about that, thanks, I think I will not order a pizza when it rains cat and dog. Good day! Happy myLotting! [HelloMickey]
Maybe you can find one and ask him what he really thinks about ordering pizzas in the rain. rolleyes [lordwarwizard]

Since the sky was dumping buckests of cats and dogs, I will not to order pizza or other things to be delivered to me. Just as you said, it is really unsafe to ride a bike to deliver it. For most of the time, I do not like eating outside or ordering sth to eat, since I can cook for myself. The most important thing is, I really like what I cooked myself. Sometimes, I will be worried about the cleaness of the food served in the restaurants. I would rather believe that the food I cooked myself is the most suitable food for me. So, I will not order pizza or Gongbaojiding or other things in such a condition. :) [xuanlingfang]
I would love to cook good myself, then I wouldn't have this dilemma lol. lol [lordwarwizard]

Trust me my friend, when it rains, the pizza takes longer to be delivered. Cos the delivery man will wait out for the rain to fizzle out before they start their deliveries. I tried it once before. It was just before the weather changed for the worst that I ordered my pizza. And then it rained shortly after my order was made. A call came to tell me that due to the rain, the delivery will be delayed. And I was asked if I wanted to wait or to cancel my order. So don't you worry about the poor delivery man getting caught in the rain. They will find shelter and hide from the rain. lol [ahgong]

Yea I mean these guys get paid to deliver even in the rain, so I do have the tendency to order in when it is raining. I mean it's not like I am making them walk from the pizza shop to my house in the rain lol. They drive their cars here, but if they rode bikes I would feel bad. [Jezebella]
Yea they do get paid... [lordwarwizard]

Given your reasoning, I would say no, I wouldn't order pizza in the rain. Thankfully, I am able to order pizza any time as our delivery drivers drive cars and have umberellas with them! lol. I see one other problem with having pizza delivered when it is raining: How do they stop the pizza from getting wet and going soggy? The delivery bags aren't exactly water proof. [newzealtralian]
Yup, if cars... then okay. happy [lordwarwizard]

I dont think so much on a pizza if i have to . Its their work and they know what they are doing . Sympathy is not a profession. What if fireman , cops etc people think when we call them ..??What i am trying to say is that .. Your way of putting things is right in some perspective . [smartx]
I just happened to think about it hehe... [lordwarwizard]

Yes definitely, I will order and I do order whether it is hot freaky summer or a rainy season. I always get pizza on time. I read your rationale but what I think is its their job and they can take a proper care of themselves delivering pizza oon time without any hassles. [airakumar]

My boys are both pizza delivery guys. They are always extremely busy when it is raining outside. They love it! The tips are usually bigger too. I lvoe pizza all the time, so I would definitley order pizza if it is raining outside. [sunshine4]
Ah... so it's though that those doing pizza delivery love the rain! [lordwarwizard]

In here I have never seen anyone deliver in a bike, so yes, I often order pizza in the rain. But as you describe, I wouldn't order either and like you I would just cook something for myself. I don't see it as being too safe, not even counting with the fact that the delivery person would be pedaling all the way trough the rain...not good. No pizza for me on rainy days either. [arkaf61]
Yea coss the place is here puny and bikes cost less to go around. w00t [lordwarwizard]

Pizza delivery is done by car here. We get a lot of rain and so I don't think delivery by bike would be any good. I will order pizza in any type of weather. Pizza is good any time. I just can't imagine how they would handle delivering the amount of pizzas they do when using a car. Talk about a balance act. [crickethear]
Yup, cars would be common in countries with big mass area. happy [lordwarwizard]

If you ever come back to mylotting Master Wizard, I'd be interested in knowing where you are from/at. [DavidReedy]

Hi lord, well i love eating pizza and i do order pizza but definitely not in rain because when it is raining hard outside i usually eat Indian foods like pakoras with tea. I make pakoras with lots of fillings like poataoes, onions or cauli flower and also they can be made of spinach , chillies or even brinjals ( egg plant). I also make bread rolls too some times. Pakoras taste so good when it is raining and looks like this food is made for raining season but they are deep fried and have lots of calories. [asweetie]

Yeah that's the greatest isn't it? Especially when the wind chill factor is about -15 C. What you do is when you order, you turn up your heat to full blast so that by the time the pizza guy gets to your house, a blast of hot air will hit him when you open the door. Make sure that you answer the door in your dressing gown, so you look all nice and cozy - I like to also add a bit of yawn and a stretch for effect. Then you gush praise on the guy for coming out to your house in such harsh conditions just to make your video watching and make-out session on the couch so much more pleasurable, and then say that you doubt if you'll even get around to eating the pizza. Shuffle through your wallet and pull out only large bills so he thinks he's gonna get a big tip, but keep the exact amount (or maybe 5 cents short) handy in small denomination coins and pile it into his hand. Watch the look on his face, he's gonna love it! lol [DiamondDogs]
