I love making home made pizzas. I have had lots of experience doing this for my family, and then I got out of the habit when I started buying Digiornos and other frozen pizzas. Well everyone knows I am now about trying to save money, so I am back to making the ones from scratch. I use my own yeast dough to make my pizzas. I have also made double crusted pizzas. Do you remember when Pizza Hut had their Priatzo's (double crusted pizzas).. I learned how to make them that were almost as good as those. They are deep dish pizzas.
So do you make home made pizzas, or do you make them from a box mix, or do you only buy them in the grocery store frozen, or do you just order out?
If you make your pizzas how do you do it? I make mine with the yeast dough, and then pat it out in a pan... I cover with Prego Sauce, dot with pepperoni and Italian Sausage, mozzarella Cheese, cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese, onions and bell peppers, and bake until they are done.
How do you like yours?

Right I think I'll come over if you're going to make me a pizza then, I like chicken and pineapple on mine and if you have pepperoni then I don't mind that too LOL! Seriously tho' I go through stages of eating pizza, I'll suddenly get a craving for it and then I go off it. I much prefer pizza from Pizza Hut although someone once put me off them by saying that they keep the pizzas in oil over night to soak in, and it's like ewwwww probably why I haven't eaten a pizza for years! But I'll make an exception for you ;0) [wolfie34]
Ohhhh YUK! Pickle Pizza???! How gross! hehe. [OreoCookie3]
I Love pizza and I don' like most pizza places anymore. So I do like to make at home, my problem that I can't seem to finda solution for is the cheese... I can't get it to melt and be all gooey and bubbly like the pizzarieas do. I know we have different ovens and such, but still, the cheese will just melt into a layer and you take a bit and the whole layer pulls off the top of the pizza. I have tried putting it on the bottom and between meat toppings - you name it and I have tried it and still - can't get that cheese to melt right. Any suggestions? [coffeebreak]
Oh Coffee! I want a bread machine! Lots of my friends have them and they make all kinds of great breads.. even whole grain breads. I would love to make a whole grain pizza crust. Freshetta makes a pizza with whole grain crust. It's great! [OreoCookie3]
I also used to make home made pizza quite often when my daughter was still at home. I haven't made it for awhile now but you got me in the mood to try it again. I sometimes used the frozen bread dough and I sometimes used Bisquick; I liked it both ways. I put whatever we had on hand on it but generally sauce, cheese - LOTS of cheese - mushrooms, pepperoni, green and red peppers, sausage, onions...and whatever else I decided to throw on it. I've never had pineapple on pizza although I love pineapple. It just always sounded a bit strange but it's sure gotten quite popular. Care to share your recipe for your yeast dough? I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out! Annie P.S., I love Papa John's pizza! I just had to add that because I've always like Pizza Hut and I still do but I think I prefer Papa John's. Their crust is even really tasty, not just your usual bread taste. [anniepa]
I've never made it out of Bisquick... does it hold together? Do you use yeast in it? I like Bisquick pancakes and biscuits. [OreoCookie3]
Actually I have never made a home made pizza. I would love to get a pizza oven, thats the next thing on our list. I have a couple of favorite pizzas I like I get at the store. We use to order take out but now that we live out in the country its impossible because they don't deliver out here. Any how I love pizza anyway its made. [dianel]
I don't have a pizza oven... just a conventional electric oven. When I move we will have a gas oven, and I am looking forward to that. I love pizza too. [OreoCookie3]
It is always much better at home and so much cheaper and I'm sure better for us. I use plan crushed tomatoes and season it myself. Then a ton of veggies and lots of cheese...yummmmmmyyyyy Yours sounds great too.. xoxoxoxoxo [raydene]
The crushed tomatoes sounds good... you could also use a puree, I guess and season it if you didn't have sauce. [OreoCookie3]
If it's pizza. If it has cheese on it. If it doesn't have anything gross on it. I like it. Home-made, fresh-made, frozen... whatever Friday is actually my "pizza night" and I eat pizza every friday night if I'm home (which I mostly am). I pretty much always eat frozen totino's pizza's i get for .99 cents at walmart. I also go to a cooking club and we had a pizza theme once where we all made home-made pizza's. gahhh... pizza rules. [raychill]
fortunately i'm not worried about calories yet in my life. i probably should be... but i'm not :p [raychill]
no, i like pizza hut's pizza. my wife dislike what i have saying here... [salam1]
My version of home made pizzas, usually entails getting a crust mix out of a bag, and then adding my own sauce and toppings, I have yet to find a good recipe for a crust mix, and even the bag mixes tend to turn out soggy. I also have bought the pre made crusts which work out better, but not quite the same as home made. I find that BJ's sells the pizzas, 18 inch by Unos which suit us fine, we get 2 or 3 for 7.99 and then add our own toppings, much cheaper than ordering, and more pizzas for the money. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
I ususally have self rising flour... can I use that with yeast too? I hate to buy regular all purpose flour when I use self rising for so many things. Wonder if its okay.... That's what I have now is SR flour. [OreoCookie3]
Well, I haven't ordered out pizza in a long time, it has probably been a couple years since the last time I've ordered. I really want to try the kind with cheese stuffed inside though. I mostly eat the frozen Delissio kind that people buy in the supermarket when I have a pizza craving, or more often, pizza pockets and pizza pops. I don't really like them that much though, they're kinda greasy, the cheese doesn't melt properly, the ingredients aren't fresh and then just taste funny. I did try to make home made pizza once with my friends before and it actually tasted good and much better than the frozen alternative. We bought the pre-made dough from the supermarket but made the tomato sauce and our toppings of course. We used several assorted cheeses, bacon strips, ham pieces, peppers, onions, tomatoes and whatever else that was left in the fridge that was suitable for pizza toppings. The shape was kind of strange though because we were trying to see if we could throw the dough up in the air and spin it, which wasn't a good idea. We were actually quite surprised at how good it tasted at the end though. [Wisteria]
I used to make homemade from scratch pizzas all the time. Haven't in awhile though...but just the other night, I did make homemade, but using a prepared crust (not frozen)...I added the tomato sauce, chopped up chunks of tomatoes, green peppers, onion, and LOTS and lots of cheese, sprinkled garlic powder and oregano ---oh was it good! LOL [pyewacket]
I like cooking pizza from scratch. The dough is done by my mother, i collect all interesting little thingies to place on top and i bake them too.I like corn, olives, different kinds of ham and cheese, also oregano is good and feta cheese if you want to avoid some of the meat.Little slices of sausages also work fine.Well for me its exciting to stand above the dough and decide whats to be put on it :) [makatas]
Yummy! I love pepperoni, and I like sausage...but try to stay away from it mostly. I nver had corn on pizza... sounds great though. [OreoCookie3]
I never ate homemade pizza before. What does it taste like? [spiderlizard22]
Well ummm, it tastes like Pizza! :D [OreoCookie3]
I am making white pizza for my guys at work today. One of them can't have tomatoes and he always wants pizza. So I thought today would be special and they call can enjoy something different. [Debs_place]
Yes, you can make a white pizza with Alfredo sauce and chicken too... I've done that. It's good, but my family likes traditional. If anyone is allergic to tomatoes Alfredo sauce is a good way to go. [OreoCookie3]
I make homemade pizza all of the time. They taste so much better. I make the yeast dough in my bread machine. I like a good ranch dressing (from a local pizzeria - homemade)for the sauce. I use roast beef on it. Then a pure mozzerella cheese. Yummy! Yours, also sounds good. [sherrir101]
I really want a bread machine too. I would be making lots more stuff from scratch if I had one. I may just have to invest in one after Christmas. [OreoCookie3]
I love homemade pizza. My mom's is my favorite but I also make it occasionally myself. I love thick whole wheat crust with lots of veggie toppings...that's hard to get with take out or frozen so I never get either anymore. [brimia]
I love any pizza but can't eat it any more cause of blood pressure [Cajunhellcat]
Growing up, we had pizza fridays. Best ones were when we made pizza. It's fun. Bit messy though. Mom had an idea once foe a deep dish pizza. the deep was pie shellwe threw all our ingredients in, and she topped it with her own crust. We had veggies, cheese, and some crumbled sausage. It was awesome! Had to eat it with a fork! [ersmommy1]
My family loves pizza and yes I make my own. I make my own yeast dough too but the toppings vary. To be honest, that's how I clean out the refridgater sometimes. I've made meat lovers pizza with left over beef roast - finely chopped, hamburger and pepperoni. Another great favorite is breakfast pizza with about 2 dozen scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon and loads of cheddar cheese. My kids say then never have time for breakfast, but when I'm serving that, even the kids that don't live at home anymore come home to have breakfast with us. [ljegbers]
I have never made my own pizza before. I buy the frozen ones sometimes and sometimes we order out. We don't really eat very much pizza though. When I was pregnant I couldn't eat it at all because it would make me feel sick for some reason. And it's not really my favorite thing to eat now either. I just have to be in the mood for pizza. [sweetgirl_k1]
Kind of - I get wheat bread or tortillas and put sauce and cheese on them and then either bake them or put them in the microwave. Its actually really good. [artemis432]
I also like home made pizza, as long as its delicious, i love to it pizza [Jamian]
