As Italian, I really love both pizza and pasta. Also if our pizza is a bit different from the one you can find abroad (I want share a news with all the american friends here in myLot... yes, in Italy too we have pizza, and we call it exactly as you... pizza. And someone said pizza is an Italian invention;) ).
But if I should make a choice, I really prefere pasta.
What do you prefere? Pasta or Pizza?

I prefer pasta. I like it mostly with the alfredo sauce(of course not so healty). But really I can eat it anyway. We went to this restaurant in Tennessee, and they had the best dish. It was spagetti with marinara sauce, then they addes chicken, olives, mushrooms, peppers, pepperoni, onions, mixed it all together and fried it in a cast iron skillet. Then put cheese over to top to let it melt in. It was wonderful, way to much for one person to eat. Now I am hungry, and that restaurant is six hours away. [sassy28]
Eheheheh, six hours is really too much;) You know that Alfredo invented that souce for his wife? The legend says that the wife was sick, and she wasn't in the mood to eat. So Alfredo (that was running a restaurant at that time, now I guess is the nephew running that restaurant, the name is Alfredo all'augusteo, in Rome) decided to prepare a special dish for the wife, wishing that a so delicious dish could let her feel hungry. And seems he got his goal. The wife suggested him to sell that dish in the restaurant, and from there started the success of this dish, nowadays internationally well known;) [pierone]
I like both pasta and pizza. But if I have to choose one, I would choose pasta. There was a time when I always smell pizza by passing through a pizza shop and because of that my nose became sensitive to its smell. The smell became unpleasant for me. When it comes to affordability and accesibility pasta would always be on top compared to pizza. [maria1081]

WOW that is a hard decision. I love both pizza and pasta. I have been craving some baked ziti or rigatoni. At home in Florida we had a fanstastic italian restaurant a few miles from home, great food. It didn't take me long to put on lots of extra pounds. But now I live in a small city in Tennessee. There is really no good italian restaurants here. And not even a good pizza place. Pizza is one of my favorite foods. I am not much into pasta. I can enjoy eating moment with my boyfriend if we are eating a very delicious pizza. My boyfriend likes it too. But he like pasta too. If we go out and watch movie, we often buy pizza and eat it inside the movie theater. I like its taste especially the Hawaiian flavor pizza wherein it's filled with pineapple bits too. [pentagan12]

I would prefer pasta and I love Puttanesca. I can eat it every day and still be happy. I'm not so into pizza because what we usually have here just have too much oil. I've tried pizza baked in brick oven though and that was pretty good. [inutme]

I would have to say that I prefer Pizza over pasta, though I also enjoy pasta as well. Pizza is very deliciously, and can have any topping you want, or the dough made anyway you want. Thin crust, or thick, it doesn't really matter! [SomeCowgirl]

Hey I love pasta bcoz it has culinary traditions around the world .I want to tell you something many types are made of the same pasta dough and differ only in thee shape of the pieces . However, the shapes usually affects cooking time, consistency,ability to hold sauce, ease of eating. etc. therefore, certain shapes are better suited for certain dishes, and such pairing may be part of certain cooking traditions. for example , the amatriciana sauce is generally used with bucatini pasta, and hardly ever with spaghetti or other shapes. Some pasta varieties are uniquely regional and not widely known, some types may have different names in different languages, or sometimes in the same language. For example, the cut role rotelle is also is called ruote in italy amd "wagon wheels" in the US. manufacturers and cooks often invent new shapes of pasta, or may invent new name for old shapes for marketing reasons. Italian pasta names often end with the masculine plural suffixes-ini.-elli or the feminine plurals -ine,-elle etc [deep05_1982]
Wow, really impressive. Congratulation for the pasta culture you shown to have. Is really amazing that in India you could know so well about pasta. I never been there, but I guess pasta is not one of your main dishes there. Just a little note about the amatriciana. Hi friend, I like the pizzas I make, from the dough up.wink. Bu really, I prefer pasta. There are so many types, so many sauces to eat them with... And as I live alone, pasta can be turned into something else easily if you have leftovers. Yesterday I put pesto on my pasta and lots of Reggianito cheese. That was lunch. At night, after a large time at the computer, I got hungry but did not want to spend much time at the kitchen. So I made a pasta an cooked swiss chard tortilla with two eggs (more cheese on tophappy). I have that problem when I have a visitor (or visitors) for diner. Conversation and a good red wine make it imposible to eat just one dish. At those times I put a big serving dish with a cover to keep it hot in the center of the table. The cover is not needed: the pasta disappears before it has the posibility of getting cold.lol. When I have company, I usually serve my pasta after an appetizer of homemade antipasto. That, and some nice fruit is all that is needed.happy [marguicha]

Hello csabyputurosu. I can understand your point of view. But I want tell you something about pasta. I've lot of romanian friends in Italy, and often happened I ate with them. I don't know if all romanian do the same, but for what I was beable to see (and ate :( ) usually they overcook the pasta at least 3 or 4 minutes. In this way pasta became quite uneatable (we usually referr to the overcooked pasta as "glue"). Your idea should be tested. Could be not so bad. Several years ago I used to go quite often in a pizza restaurant in Rome, where they "invented" several kind of pizza topped with the sauce that are commonly used for pasta, like amatriciana, carbonara, and so on. And I must admit that some of these "strange" pizze were really delicious. [pierone]

That is a difficult one because I like them both so much, it is soooo diffixult to choose. Wow I really do not first I thought pasta yummy, pasta and meatballs or lasagne, then I though about my favourite garlic chicken pizza, or stonebaked garlic bread pizza and it made it really hard. I definitely like thincrust. If I was it a restaurant it would really depend upon the topping of the pizza and the sauces/type of pasta. Ohhh, if you like the bread, then probably you could love the "calzone" pizza. Basically is a pizza folded and the inner part may vary, but the most common (in italy) is with mozzarella cheese, sausage and mushrooms (with or without tomato souce). Well, also the pizza can be mixed with several kind of topping. I remember a pizza seller in Rome that have a list with more than 40 different kinds of pizza. Anyway I guess you're right. One of my recipes books is just for pasta, and there are more than 1000 different recipes ;) [pierone]
Dood question both are Italian dishes. If I had to choose I would prefere pasta. Post is more classer than pizza. If I'm going on a date or out with friends I would eat pasta depending on what kind of pasta it is. These this kind of pasta thats green that I don't like, not because of taste but becasue of color. I try to stay away from foods that are green foods. I like to eat pizza on more of a weekend kind of food. But I would prefere pasta as a date night dish. [musicman901]
Hello musicman. Probably the green pasta you're referring is the pesto pasta. (could be also the broccoletti pasta, but I don't guess the second one is so diffused abroad). Hello Pierone, I live in Canada and have Italian blood. My grandparents were from Reggio Calabria. I love pasta, oh I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have this Italian place here in Montreal, they sell pizza. The crust is thick and theres only tomato on top. God thats good also. I make my own sauce of course and my own meatballs. All my Italian cooking comes from my nonna. She also showed me how to make my own pasta and I made some last weekend and some gnocci also. I definitely prefer pasta. I am not really big on tomatoes so i go for the alfredo pastas the most. However - the pizza here in the states in no where near as amazing as the pizza in Italy. I adored it there and I would choose pizza in your country, but pasta in mine. The pizza here is too manufactured. Canned tomato sauce, packaged cheese. Oh no, yours is much much better! [HansonFan]

Pizza biancha salatissima ! That's how i like it ... simple white pizza with the see salt (not the thin one but that cristalized) . well, my preference on food intake or eating, depends on a particular occasion, pierone. pizza or pasta is a staple in our country, philippines, unlike in italy and other places. but it is also very popular here, with a lot of versions -- american, italian and local. between the two, pasta is more dynamic, i mean you are free to mix with whatever you want... while, pizza, you only have to select from what is listed in the menu... frankly, i haven't tried making pizza at home... with pasta, i do a wide variety of combinations... so, it's pasta... like your choice... When I was younger, I preferred pizza, I had pizza every Friday night at college. Now that I'm older, my tastebuds and my stomach have changed. I like pasta with alfredo sauce. The best is with some fresh veggies in, too. But once in a while, a white or blond pizza (no tomato sauce, my stomach can't handle it any more)is good. While I enjoy pizza, pasta is usually healthier for a person. With pasta a person has more control of the types of ingredietns added to it, whereas pizza a person does it for you. The ingredients on pizza are typically more fattening, while the pasta itself usually has less fat-ladened dough for the noodles. Hi pierone, I'm from Malaysia and I haven't tasted the original pizza and pasta from your country before. Though I still find both of them are yummy respectively. I think the two Italian foods I have taken here all the time may be rather different from those which are available in your country. Anyway I enjoy eating them In my place pizza is more common and there are outlets selling this food. The most popular one is Pizza Hut. Personally i prefere a take away pizza, its funny that pizza hut have changed to pasta hut in some areas but its still the pizza that 78% of customers order. I guess nothing beats a take away pizza for me, i find it is easy to get a pizza right every time but not with pasta. [chrisbobby]

I love pizza, we make our own with a bread base and only melt cheese onto it at the end of cooking. Pasta is also a favorite. I have made it from scratch a few times with a pasta machine and the flavor is much nicer than cooking the dried noodles but I like both . We eat pasta with fish or meat or sometimes just with vegetables. A lot of people I know , seem to think Bolognaise is the only pasta dish but it is very versatile. [pandaeyes]
