Well do ya? Do you stick to the "15% tipping rule" for delivery too or is that just for restaurants?? How much would you usually tip for having your pizza delivered?
[question posted by Jshean20]
responses and comments:
Tipping isnt done that much in the UK, you probably would only leave a tip at a restaraunt where you had a proper waiter, a delivery man normally doesnt get tipped here. [nancygibson]
Tipping isn't done in the Uk? Why? Do the servers get paid well? [margieanneart]
i should but i always forgot [greenmango]
maybe next time hehe [Jshean20]
i seldom order pizza by deliver. i just go to the place or buy it right there. [dave_lie]
I usually just round it up to the nearest whole dollar amount I think last time I ordered pizza it was around $15.00 I just gave him a $20.00 so he got about a $5 tip. [honeybfly83]
that's a good tip I think [Jshean20]
nope i pick up, it's the only way i get it hot [blkcat1]
Always. And usually at least $2. If they are quick and remeber to bring everything, I'll give them $4. I also used to deliver pizza in college so I have a soft spot for pizza delivery drivers. [clever06]
aww that's nice [Jshean20]
i dont give any tip for pizza delivery [pusibaba]
thanks both of you. [Jshean20]
I do tip pizza delivery guys. They do not get payed very much and with the gas as high as it I can only imagine how much these poor guys spend. On the average I tip about 5 dollars. That is my usall amount. Sometimes it is 15% and sometimes a little mor and others a little less. [floramwaters]
cool thank you [Jshean20]
No i don't tip pizza delivery ...because when the bill come there is 5 % Goverment tax 10 % service charge added ....so we are paying them in another way already ... as for pizza delivery Serivce charge and tax is already included in the price of the pizza [Sir_bobby88]
I always tip. It's rude if you don't. However if they charge a delivery fee then you are already paying for a tip. [princess111281]
I tepp the delivery people. i usually tip more like 25 to 30 % because they pay for their own gas and normally they use their own cars which means their car insurance goes up also, so they need the little extra money. [missyd79]
that's nice of you [Jshean20]
I don't usually get pizza delivered to my house, but if I did I would tip the delivery person. My husband used to deliver pizza and counted on the tips, because the wage was soo low. [rosey2006]
My husband tips all the time for any service that requires it and he does the 15% tipping. I think he tips $5 for pizza all the time. [Lydia1901]
I think that's a good tip [Jshean20]
One time I didn't tip and I used my credit card to pay and the assh*le wrote in a $5 tip for him!!! It was a freaking 50% tip!!!!!!! [Jemmifire]
i usually round it up to an even amout so they don't ahve to give me change back it can be anywhere from 2 to 4 dollars usually [penny78256]
We only give tip when we are staisfied with the waiter. And that 15% rule doesnt stick here. It is your wish. Like my dad once paid 500 tip to waiter and the ill was hardly of 350 that is bcoz his service was very good. and in delievery the time is the factor that will helps us i figuring out [rishaayu]
Haven't had a pizza delivered in a long while. I don't even think they'll deliver to our address we're so rural lol. But, whenever I have had it delivered, always tipped. I'm bad about overtipping, as long as someone's nice and does a decent job, they'll get 20% from me, restaurant or delivery. [Signal20]
that's very nice of you. [Jshean20]
I used to be a pizza delivery girl. This was a few years back-in 2001 and 2002. Some people never tipped. Ever. It seems the standard was about 2 or 3 dollars. Never a percentage thoug, as a standard such as when leaving a tip for a waitress. [princess07031980]
I dont usually give tips to deliveries...as i believe they have their service tax and all that, so i will pay the exact amount. [euniceeleanor]
I always tip the pizza delievery drivers, and I will tip them more during the winter, because I feel kind of bad that they have to go out there and deal with the cold weather while bringing me a nice hot pizza. Speaking of which, doesn't pizza sound really good right now? [bsabers]
thanks both of you [Jshean20]
We ordered pizza last night from Papa John's. I don't know if my husband left a tip. I usually leave $2.50 for a $30 order (we order and pay online). When we lived in Chicago we ordered from a local place and always left the change as a tip (usually a few dollars). On time I gave the guy $5 because he is an elderly guy and it was about 10 degrees outside. I felt so bad that he had to be out in that weather delivering pizzas. My brother was a pizza delivery guy and depended on those tips to make ends meet so I know they are important. My brother said he could make over $100 in tips on a good night because he lived in a college town and the parties tipped good. [4monsters4me]
that was nice of you to be thinking of the elderly man. [Jshean20]
I tip a couple of dollars. I really hate the whole tipping rule thing though. Service people are already getting paid for what they do, and yet you are expected to pay them more? Plus, you have already paid for whatever service you are supposed to be recieving. I just don't think it is right that you should have to pay extra just for people to do thier jobs. But, I usually do tip a couple of dollars, if the service was really good. [fotychic]
I usually just tip $2-3. It doesn't even matter what price the pizzas cost. Maybe it is because I have never worked as a pizza delivery person, but I know places in my area pay $15/hour. [hodgemo2]
I usually just do like two dollars. It's not like they are doing as much as waiters in terms of servicing. Plus, I hope they get paid better than waiters do, who basically live on tips. [kesfylstra]
I usually tip the pizza guys. It's never 15%. I usually give them about two bucks no matter what. [rawpoet]
Yeah I give about $2 too...$2-$3 [Jshean20]
I would tip 15% for delivery. In a sit down resturant, it depends on the service. If it's really good 20% to 30%. [margieanneart]
Of course, especially since most of the drivers have to use their own cars, and I know they don't get compensated enough for wear and tear of their cars. One of my jobs I had years ago I had to use my own car for a courier job, I didn't get hardly enough for gas,in compensation. [goofygrmp]
I do. I tip at least 15%. I also tip the people that get my meal together when I call in a carryout meal in a sit down resturant. [sunrisekn]
thanks to you both [Jshean20]
I try to pay atleast something, but like I said in another thread about tipping, I just don't have enough when you add-in the total price of everything. [DeadmanInc24110]
Of course I tip for pizza delivery because who doesn't? if I order a pizza, then it is my job to pick it up, but if I can't, then the driver is suppose to get a tip for delievering the pizza to my home. Why are people so lazy if they aren't planning to tip the delivery person who delivered the pizza when it is your job to pick it up? Be nice to them. They are people too. [garfield8]
I tip a few dollars for pizza delivery though we dont get it delivered that many times. [marriedman111399]
I will usually tip 15% for pizza delivery. I also tip the car-hops at Sonic. [MelangeTulsa]
I depends. If their is a delivery charge, i might tip, depending on the service. the last time i ordered pizza their was a delivery charge and the guy was rude so i didnt tip, although if there is no charge for delivery than i always tip. [jess368]
It all depends on the mood I am in, if it is winter time, I do tip cause I feel sorry for them having to get out in the cold to deliver, usually I will go get it myself if it is nice out. [tumbleweed1990]
I always tip for a home delivery service and I give extra if the driver arrives on time. Most of the drivers here in Ireland only get paid the delivery charge which is between 1.50 euros and 2.00 euros. He might have to travel 20 miles for just one delivery so it must be costing him money, therefore, even if my order only comes to 7.50 euros, I would always give him at least 10 euros of a tip and double at Christmas. [Alexandria37]
I actually give him a buck or 2 and the rest of the change. I don't stick to the 15%. Some times my tip is even more than the 15%. I think he is off better with what I tip. [berlinlife]
When we lived in upstate NY, yes I did tip the drivers when they delivered it to us a buck or two. Where we live now, we can't get pizza delivered to us, so I don't have to worry about it. For me, the 15% rule is just for restaurants. That is too much for a delivery guy to get. He is after all 'just' bringing you the pizza, he is not 'waiting' on you while you eat it or giving you drink refills. [happygal68]
Yes, I tip for pizza delivery and any other delivery I get as well. I still use the 15% rule for it as well. [PatriciaL]
I do, I feel bad if I don't. I usually give a couple of dollars but if they are late or something else it wrong, I wont tip them and I still feel embarassed. Go figure. [soldenski]
I do always but I usually tip $3 dollars all the time. [diamondwiz]
Some people have told me that they tip food deliveries not as a set amount but based on a number of factors--how many boxes of packages the person has to carry, if they have to walk up lots of flights of stairs, etc. And they always tip more if it's raining or snowing hard. [Idlewild]
I will tip the driver if he/she had to go through an extra amount of work to get to my door, such as driving through a blizzard. Other than that, I feel $8 an hour (the going rate here) to drive a pizza to a house is more than fair. [srhelmer]
It seems like where I live there is a $1-$2 delivery charge for pizza. I don't know if that extra money goes to the driver or not. We usually just tip an extra $1.50 or so. It depends on how much we order and how far away the pizza shop is. [momto2]
I always give $2. I don't stick to the 15% rule. I figure a waitress has been waiting on you for around an 30 minutes to an hour deserves it, a pizza man drove a couple of blocks. If I order pizza in a big snowstorm I do tip extra however! [Iamh4b1t]
Well i do not follow the 15% tipping rule when it comes to delivery for pizzas or anything else. But i do tip the person a sufficient amount. The people who work for delivering are being paid mainly for doing that, whereas in a restaurant, the person serves you till the end and that needs appreciation and that is why i tip the generously. [Sudhanshu_2k3]
I usually just give 1-2 dollars to the delivery guy. Sometimes more if he's hot lol. I'm not sure if the 15% rule applies for delivery, I never really thought about it. I'll have to ask one of my friends. [rmuxagirl]
we dont order pizza to be delievered. my hubby order it on phone and he picked it by himslef or sometimes we go and enjoy at restaurant and it has its own charm ;-) [sj_chaudhry]
I always pay a dollar tip. You got to think though, they are already getting a tip from the delivery which I believe is a dollar also. So they get about two dollars tip when they deliver to me! [mfrancq]
I do tip for pizza delivery. I usually only go 5-10%. Yes they did bring my my pizza order, but they didn't have to take my order, enter it, make sure it was right, or even stuck around to make I don't need anything else. [MakDomMom]
15% rule is for using there facilties to dine in. If we order food at home there work is reduced a lot and so is the tip. I normally give about 5%. Some companies also charge extra delivery charge. [vhmehta]
I don't order pizza, so I don't have this problem. Anyway I don't agree to give a tip in such situation [health]
sometimes when i have the money to they charge for delivery anyways but when i have enough left over then i give them a tip [coco526]
I tip $2 for pizza delivery. Delivery drivers are usually paid minimum wage and get some money for their mileage, but when you add in wear and tear on the vehicle and delivering in all kinds of weather, it isn't enough. I know someone who delivered pizzas and earned over $50 a day in tips alone. [lissaj]
sometimes......i give 50 cents [haidabez]
yes, but most places now tack on a delivery charge. I don't think I should have to tip on top of that since they are supposed to get all of that. [crystal8577]
If it is delivered fast and i could feel that it is hot then i usually give 15%. It's hard because they have to pay for their own gas and can't control traffic or the cooks. My husband delivered pizza for awhile to make extra money and sometimes he wouldn't get anything or they would say keep the change which would be maybe a dime. And he said he always got it there as fast as he could and made sure that the pizza wouldn't slide all over. [GrammaFood]
I think you should always tip. I am a delivery boy myself, and hate it when people do not tip. Especially when I deliver on time and am friendly. The biggest tip I ever received was over 22 dollars and was only for 2 pizzas. People like that make my day and I like it. I believe you should always tip in restaurants or anywhere else where tipping is commomn. It is the right thing to do. [pHr0sT]
Technically you're supposed to tip the 15% for the delivery too but I never do. I usually round up to the next dollar then add on $2 more. So if my order comes to $18.10 I go up to $19 plus $2 for a total of $21. I figure the idea of ordering pizza delivery is to save the costs of eating out. They generally charge anywhere from $1 to $1.50 around here for delivery anyways, and that does go to the driver. If I had more I'm sure I'd tip more! lol [hockeygal4ever]
yes but i check my pizza first [paule4129]
I do tip for pizza delivery. I tip between $3 and $5 depending on the total of my order (usually $18 - $25). I think that the delivery people go out of their way and usually end up working more than usual when the weather is bad. [bam001]
I do tip for pizza delivery. I tip between $3 and $5 depending on the total of my order (usually $18 - $25). I think that the delivery people go out of their way and usually end up working more than usual when the weather is bad. [bam001]
yes i tip for pizza delivery [madhurtravels]
yes i tip tip for pizza delivery because they do their delivery at accurate time so i tipp............. [madhurtravels]
yes specially if there is loose change i just tip it to the delivery man... [juntech]
I always tip more for delivery, gas is expensive and they will remember you. I have noticed a better tip = faster delivery next time [jenbatres]
I always tip the person making the pizza delivery. Usually it is around a 2 dollar tip. That is unless we are ordering from the pizza place that charges for delivery because we know for a fact that the rason the place is doing this is because the delivery fee goes straight to the drivers, too many people were not tipping them at all. [razcal2267]
I always tip my pizza delivery driver. I am a full time waitress so I know how people come to depend on these tips and I tip him because after all, he has to get out of his car into the cold and possibly wet weather to deliver my food. I feel he has earned his tip. [kdarrell]
Yes, I tip for pizza delivery! I don't tip 15 percent, but I usually give a couple of dollars. [birthlady]
yes i do tip the pizza guy about 50 cents! i think he deserves it! [architcool]
I usually give between $2-$3 tip to the pizza guy, dependent upon how many pizza's he delivers and how quick he was with the delivery [texasclassygal]
in pizza delivery i think you dont need to tip a pizza delivery. because i think it is already in the delivery charge right? [coolcager]
I tip pizza delivery depending on how long they take to get to me. If you tell me a certain time and you dont make that time (15 20 mins later) I wont tip. Especially if your n walking distance of my home. [samwilliams06]
yes i do. i just feel sorry for the pizza delivery gys all sweating and stuff. i usually give me 20 dollar bill for an 18 dollar pizza. i usually dont wait for the change anymore. [ais_nedla]
Yes I normally tip 15, unless my delievery show up very late. Or the driver is rude. [liperoterachel]
If the pizza is around $20-25 I usually tip around $3.50 or so. Most places here already put on a delivery charge of two dollars so I can't always afford to tip alot. [loveoutloud]
We tip the pizza guy. He only gets a dollar or two though. I'm sure a lot of people give more then that. Hopefully they know to write off all their car expenses on their taxes. [mygreyparrot]
I always give some tips for restaurant waiter [masigho]
I usually tip. I don't have a % that I use. I usually give between $3. - $5. Depending on what I have. I figure that they saved me a trip. [mjgarcia]
I do tip for pizza delivery. I think it is important as they should be paid for a service they provide. They aren't millionaires either. [ryan444]
Actually I do. I would usually give about a $3-$5 tip. Also, did you guys know that in April, Pizza Hut is going to add a new feature to their website where you can go online and make a delivery order? Technology is starting to get really advanced! [djshocker]
We only give around $2-4 for the delivery, depending on how fast it gets here, how much we order, and the weather outside. The ammount of the tip could be higher than what I said above, but that is the normal price we tip. [fsustriker]
I used to deliver for Domino's and Pizza Hut. Everybody thinks the driver gets the delivery fee. Wrong. You are paying for the convenience of having me bring your food to you. You should always tip a couple of bucks and if you can't don't order. Especially if it's raining! [Melizzy]
I give tips sometimes but now i don't.Money is hard to earn. [cooldude8889]
Yes, I do just to make driver happy so next time he can deliver sooner than before. [ainpat]
I usually do 2 dollars. I don't know why but I don't think the 15% applies here when they don't have to be nice or come back to check on you. It's mainly a delivery fee is how I see it. [gknott]
yes i like to give tip for pizza delivery because they person provide food at our home . we dont need to go out side to take food , they persons provide by them self [bhaveshneha]
we usually tip them depending on the time they say they are going to arrive. but if they dont, if is not the time they said they were going to arrive but also not that late, then we give them like some tip for them. [00fear]
commenting on page 1 where the person said in UK delivery people don't really get tipped, well when i used to work in a takeaway all my delivery colleagues got tipped on a regular basis, even i did one time and i don't see any customers!! the lady gave my tip to our delivery driver for me as i was very helpful when taking her order by telephone :O) i think it's quite generous to tip but when i have meals from a pizza shop which is not very often now i do tip them because they work hard! [xXmeganxX]
I use to deliver pizza, when I knew I was delivering to a cronic non tipper, there was usually an accident, like one time, the box accidently opened and the AC blew on the pizza all the way to his house. [gwaring]
I do tip them but not 15%. Like if my total comes up to $18.10 and I give them a 20, I tell them to keep the change. [micheller]
Yes, I usually tip for pizza delivery, but it is usually only 10 to 15%. We are eating less and less out because it is cheaper to eat at home. [mytwo_daughters]
No I never tip because they could have spat in your pizza and will do it again and again until you have tipped them more and more and then they explode!!!!! And plus refugees own many pizza places and could in fact be the aliens of our generation. [waynet]
no, i dont give tip to delivery, they already charge 10% for the delivery. i think that should be large enough, besides if there are change, i try to let him keep it. [chiyosan]
I tip normally 2 dollars but the pizza place is only 3 blocks from me (yes some times I can be that lazy lol) if i order from the other pizza place i tip 3 dollars. [ebsharer]
I don't order pizza often, but when I do I usually will tip them $5 sometimes $7. If it takes a long time to get it though I only give them $2 and the loose change. [jesi06]
na.... i dun usually tip 4 pizza delivery only in d case i have saved a great deal of my pocket money:) [datsme24]
I do give tip around 10 percent. But I also give reprimand if the delivery is late. [ernst111]
