They always seem so unentusiastic, or sometimes they are even rude!! that is their job, they applied for the job, they didn't get pushed into that job..
I worked in a pizza shop for many years, a few different ones actually, and always the same thing, rude phone operators and most of the cooks get mad when they have to actually do some work!
Have you ever had this experience ?
I always tried to be pleasent on the phone. pleasent and stupid... lol huh you got the wrong pizza ? oh my dear let me get the "supervisor" ehehe. now i was paid to do a job, but i was not paid enough to deal with angry people when it wasn't my fault!

Nah, I just make it myself. That way I KNOW I got what I wanted! [Irishfrndly65]
lol the people trapped in the plane ? I have no idea.. i think the movie was called alive.. but i couldnt watch that. I hate to fly. [Sissygrl]
No... the pizza phone operators who I've talked to have always been very pleasant. Maybe it's just you and that particular pizza joint. [allyoftherain]
I wish!! My hubby and I are regulars (always order from the same place when we order pizza) and not even a week ago we had a crusty, crabby, bored out of his mind guy be rude to me and I used my manners. [PurpleTeddyBear]
Everyone gets annoyed at their job and cant always keep a pleasant composure. Also, someone who sounds rude to you might actually be trying very hard to be as pleasant as possible. I had this problem a few times when I was working at a pizza shop in England. I would always get complaints that I was rude, even though I was trying very hard to be a very pleasant person to speak with. The problem may have been that I was an American and maybe they just disagreed with my american accent. So you never really know what is going on, on the other side of the phone. Maybe you just catch them at a bad time. [loveyevi]
Lol! Thats a very good point some people are just mean spirited. [loveyevi]
I think that people cannot act that much rude in their home, so they are trying to rude there... [pspvasanth]
i haven't experienced treated like that... it's even the other way around.. they are SO Over Very friendly over the phone and making a lot of other offers and suggestion on what flavor of pizza is the best. [tiohwji]
Maybe you guys are always getting the owners of the pizza place! lol they would be always nice cause they thrive on regulars. [Sissygrl]
It might have to do with how busy they are at the time you call. Perhaps they are just trying to take the order and free up the phone line as fast as possible so that they can take the next order. Friendliness and courtesy take time and in a busy dinner service there is little time. Plus, the person taking your order is not going to get a tip for their service (unlike the delivery person or a waiter if you were to dine-in). All they are interested in is taking the orders. Perhaps in their 'efficiency' they do not realize how rude they sound. I am not defending them, though. A little courtesy goes a long way... [thorgrym]
Well, you have a point there! I had no idea what time of day you were talking about. :) [thorgrym]
Because they have no manners? The way I see it is if you don't want to be the one who is answering the phone either don't apply to do so or make yourself busy elsewhere (boxes always need to be made, things restocked, as well as many other things) and that leaves the job of taking orders to someone else. I don't really know why some answer the phone to take an order sound bothered that you are calling. I do know that the one pizza place that we order from fired the rude girl that answered the phone after getting one too many complaints about her attitude. [razcal2267]
That's good. I once worked with a guy, since you've answered the other discussion too, the guy that got caught for the child porn, he used to get SO MAD when people ordered food. wtf, that's your job guy.. he got fired cause this one lady ordered food and he whispered b1tch into the phone when she had a big order!! FIRED!! [Sissygrl]
Maybe it's because I live in a small town but I haven't had that experience...they have always been nice.....I am sorry you had to put up with this....and I can't remember ever getting the wrong pizza. I think in our small town there is too much competition for them to be rude also be wrong...hope next time you have a better experience. [jillhill]
I find it funny too cause we usually order every friday night from there with a 50$ order or more and the owner answers the phone and knows our address and phone number. lol. he even sends free things once in a while because we call so often.. i guess this employee doenst work on friday nights to know who we were.. *ShruG* [Sissygrl]
Typically the person on the other end of the phone is a teenager who hasn't developed a good work ethic yet. They're working that job because their parents told them to get off their lazy a$$ & get one. My wife & I both helped manage pizza companies ( fortunately not at the same time since they were competitors ) & had the same problems. Even when you actually do get a good worker they're usually so overstressed making up for the slack offs that it's easy to lose composure during the daily rushes. It's hard to be civil to the person over the phone when your wanting to beat the tar out of the employee next to you who just won't listen or do their jobs right. Hope that adds some insight. [uath13]
Turnover at those places is so high they usually take whatever they can get ( & usually regret it ). [uath13]
Hi ya Sissygrl I think that sometimes the people ordering the pizza's can be rude too as they think they have an idiot on the phone and are below them. No matter how rude a customer was I would keep my cool and carry on as usual as that would be my job and what I was paid to do. Obviously if someone became personal and crude then I would make they were dealt with accordingly. I think the people that take pizza orders are in a job they don't really want to be in but maybe it was the only job that was going at the time and so they can't be bothered. It is hard for me to say because I don't ever order pizza, in fact I think the only place I have ever done it was when I was living in the States!! [Humbug25]
lol their boss would have their heads.. we hope! [Sissygrl]
I've not really had any pizza place be rude to me. I've had the wrong pizza delivered and I called and they were really nice about it and delivered me the one I ordered and also two coupons for free pizza to be used any time I wanted. [OreoCookie3]
That happened to me but with a panzerotti, just before i moved from ontario, i got a veggie one and i ordered a canadian one.. so i got a free one for the next night! mm and i thought i was ordering my last one when i ordered it. can't beat free. [Sissygrl]
They are probly angry or bored. I dont know, because some who answer phones could be the delivery guy also. Delivery guys are pretty mad if you dont leave a tip. Id probly be angry if I was working at a crumby job. Or possible girlfriend dumbed him because he worked at a pizza place?lol anthing is possible. [gamingworld]
You are right.. anything IS possible. [Sissygrl]
I have a friend who works at a pizza place. She hates getting calls, cuz that means they have to hurry and make the pizza. I dont really know why they hate it, but it might be because they didn't realize how boring and unsatisfying of a job it is. They dont get to see the customers, or do much of anything, actually... [chemcdow]
I worked in a pizza shop before.. i know.. but it is less boring then factory work!! haha I used to either drink or get high at the pizza place to make the time pass.. and we could get away with that cause we had no supervisor.. we managed the place ourselves. [Sissygrl]
Customer service isn't taught everywhere it should be. And even when it is, some people just don't "get" it. I train in the customer service field. Unfortunately, my experience is you can't teach people to be nice. Some people just aren't cut out for customer service. [Paula1966]
I agree.. there are always those negative nelly's who never have anything good to talk about or say! They usually are lacking something in their life i thi nk. [Sissygrl]
I have to agree with you, most of the time I order pizza, the person that answers the phone, seems like they really don't like their job. I guess it's just the way you look at yourself. Either you want to do a good job and make your customers happy. Or you really don't care and your in it for the money so you don't care who you are nice too. Personally if I get someone rude I cancel my order and call back later,LOL. [CRIVAS]
lol if it was me, i'd call a different pizza place, but its the place my parents call.. i should ask them next time to order from the other place.. i'll try it. I see you still have your little green guy! I really enjoy your discussions and your responses!! but i HATE you avatar!! please i beg you friend change it!! [Sissygrl]
Hi. I don't know if I would say it is just the pizza shop people who are rude...I think it is most of the people in the public these days. I hate being at the cash, when the cashier doesn't even tell me what the total is, i have to look myself...or he/she is chewing gum and popping it...or while I am putting my money away they have already left the cash going somewhere else....it seems I could go on and on. I feel that more customer service training is needed and surveys from the people who visit the store to find out if the cashiers are being poilite etc. This world is getting ruder all the time...what's wrong with saying 'hi' and a smile...chance are you will get a smile back. Nadine [Nadinest1]
Oh I can relate to this one! Thursday night we decided to order pizza and it honestly sounded like I woke the guy up from a nap. He was crusty, still sounded half asleep, and I had to repeat myself many times. Plus I told the guy that the driver would have to bring change for a 50 and the guy never did so I had to pay him in toonies and looonies hahaha (well that part was kinda fun hehe!) Then when I asked the driver where the pop was that I ordered, he looked at me like I was crazy so obviously it was the first he had heard of it! So the driver had to go back, get the pop, and bring it back to us! Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear [PurpleTeddyBear]
I think it is because they were in the middle of a conversatin with their boy/girlfriend, or at least, most times i find rude service people were in the middle of a personal call. [CurlyRedII]
I don't know, I have also noticed this at some of the stores. You would think that they would be very thankful to have the job. I just complained at one store that I had dealt with 4 different employees at their store and not one of them was the least bit friendly. I worked retail and if we acted like that they would have walked us right out the door. [Thoroughrob]
